Grand Cadaver Entomb the Planet on "World Mausoleum" (Video Premiere)

Swedish death metal supergroup Grand Cadaver made their full-length debut last year, dropping Into the Maw of Death this past October. Featuring members of Dark Tranquility, Novarupta, and ex-Katatonia drummer Daniel Liljekvist, if you happened to like any death metal album out of Sweden in the 1990s or 2000s, then you’ll find something to like here. While the HM-2 tones and punishing riffs keep the classic ‘Swedeath’ legacy alive, Grand Cadaver puts their own decrepit (though paradoxically refreshing) spin on it that’s further honed through their incredible wealth of experience. Interspersing bluesy swagger with pure malice, Into the Maw of Death is heavy metal rendered in pure energy, designed to translate viscerally to the live stage. We’re premiering a new music video for a track off the album now, featuring some neat cuts from the band’s tour footage.

While Mikael Stanne’s raspy growls within “World Mausoleum” illustrate a charnel house of a planet that’s still and dying, the music video highlights at least one positive in our ongoing, ever-escalating dumpster fire: the metal scene is alive and well. Death metal is one of my favorite genres to experience live, and with restrictions generally loosening on that worldwide, there’s more and more opportunities to get back in a venue and feel that energy again.

Into the Maw of Death released October 29th, 2021 via Majestic Mountain Records.
