Nag - Boys of Europe

Gorge Yourself On the Filthy Delights of Nag's "Unlimited Power Ballad" (Early Track Stream)

Most of the time, Norway’s Nag brims with hardcore punk’s fury, cakes themselves in crust punk’s grime, and flirts with metal. However, the vibe is entirely different on “Unlimited Power Ballad,” the second single from their upcoming album, Boys of Europe. Unlike what its title suggests, “Unlimited Power Ballad” is a punk track with serrated edges. It’s a comfortable entry into Nag, if only because it’s the closest they could come to making a traditional pop song. If you squint hard enough, you can detect a sing-along hook; you’ll just have to sift through the distortion to find it. It also lulls you into repeat listens with its endearing rhythm, an aspect Nag usually absconds because they’re playing too damn quickly.  That being said, “Unlimited Power Ballad” is still scuzzy and boils with the same anger as the rest of Boys of Europe, which is due out next month via Fysisk Format.

The band comments:

The working title for this song was "the pop song", because it's a little different from the typical NAG-song. A little slower, and almost like something that could be on the radio. In a sense, the song is the NAG-version of "What if God was one of us", except he's not a slob like one of us, more a well-meaning local councillor-type ... All in all, a fun and different song that we like a lot!
