Giveaway: Panopticon - Social Disservices

As one of the originators of the RABM (i.e., Red & Anarchist Black Metal) movement, it is no surprise that the Louisville, Kentucky-based band Panopticon made their dissatisfaction of government known on their 2009 release, Collapse. But with this year’s Social Disservices (The Flenser), they are honing in on a specific government program.

Opening with the sounds of children playing and laughing, the message on the four-track album (“Resident”, “Client”, “Subject” and “Patient”) is instantly made clear: Innocent children with nowhere to go are often subjected to a social-services system that is rife with physical and emotional abuse, leaving them more broken than when they began. The pain of this truth is excellently displayed in the blackened, crusty drone of Panopticon’s music. While its message may leave the listener disaffected, the music certainly won’t.

The album is on sale now, but thanks to the fine folks at The Flenser, we have one copy to give away. To win a free copy from us — on both vinyl AND CD! — tell us what social or moral issue you feel is most mishandled or mistreated by any entity that might be defined as “The Man”. To enter, e-mail your answer to [email protected]. Answers will be accepted until midnight on December 9th. Winner will be judged based on creativity of response.
