After vociferously announcing their arrival in 2017 via two fast ‘n heavy EPs, Burlington-based sludge-pop trio Ghastly Sound didn’t rest on their well-deserved laurels. Last August, they released the vicious and pit-ready “Crippler Crossface” single, and also contributed a noisy, psychedelic take on Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1” to Magnetic Eye Record’s The Wall Redux tribute project. Now, this September will see the release of their first full-length album Have A Nice Day -- with the band’s big, boisterous sound fully intact, the record explores the far reaches of their collective influences. While every song is a banger, fourth track “War” (streaming below) may be the most immediate of the bunch, moved along by bouncing riffs and singer Tyler Gurwicz’s dynamic vocal range. Like the rest of Ghastly Sound’s growing back catalog, it’s not easily defined by any one genre or sound; while there is a definite 1990s vibe, it could be coming from such disparate places as 120 Minutes or AmRep Records.

Bassist TJ Maynard said this about “War” and the album overall:

The song "War" is about keeping the fire going, to give 100% to this. Fighting against apathy, which is so easy to fall into, because doing this together comes with challenges. It is about being able to tell the difference between natural entropy and the things we've chosen to become apathetic about. To know when you're tired but decide to have the will to keep going. A while back, Tyler used to have a major label contract. This gives us a unique insight as to how music can be fed into a machine and peddled as a commodity. So, this consciousness of apathy is meant to represent letting go of our old selves, the selves that cared too much about all the wrong things, or maybe just didn't care enough about the right ones. It's about the three of us knowing we need this and each other to be the most complete version of ourselves.
