Fiendlord - 'Neuromancy' (Album Premiere)

fiendlord

Here’s the thing about Salt Lake City black metal duo Fiendlord: They’ve got a lot on their minds. The title of their debut album, Neuromancy, hints at as much, but as a collection of songs it’s less about making you think a certain way. Here ‘neuromancy’ means as conjuring a gateway into members Hypnoktus and Alioth’s collective palate of tastes.

Said tastes include: Summoning-worshiping (and kinda fancy) keyboard black metal on “Triadic Fusion”, to the more mosh-y and immortal-esque “Into the Cortex,” to the meditative talking drum of “Acausal Nerve Resonation”.

That talking drum might be the only real drums on the damn thing. This is a bedroom black metal LP that’s trying to sound huge. Personally I never dug the uber-raw shtick (even if the band gives it a shot on the title track) so by and large Neuromancy works for me. Not that I’m surprised. I raved about Fiendlord in one of last year’s Editor’s Choice columns.

Neuromancy is out on 8/23 via Fiendlord’s private Bandcamp page. Follow the band on Facebook.
