Ecstatic Vision - Elusive Mojo

Ecstatic Vision's Raw Psychedelic Rock Tempts Fate on "Deathwish 1970" (Early Track Stream)

Psychedelic rock comes in a lot of flavors, but very rarely would I describe its modern incarnations as ‘dangerous’—and yet that’s exactly what Philadelphia’s Ecstatic Vision offers. It’s not that I think the band themselves are dangerous—they seem nice!—but their music captures the rougher edges of early psychedelic music with remarkable authenticity. Driving basslines and freaked-out guitar tones form their hazy, heavy core, but pounding drums and gritty vocals push their eclectically-inspired rock’n’roll into violent overdrive. Within this redlined state of existence, Ecstatic Vision delivers near-hypnotic sermons on excess, desperation, and drug abuse that positively drip with sleaze —and I should also mention there’s saxophone involved.

The band is set to release their new album Elusive Mojo next week, and before that we’re premiering the new single “Deathwish 1970,” which highlights their raw, energetic approach to psychedelic rock. Let the song’s rock-steady groove and madcap lead work take you back to a deadly, druggy past.
