Deathspell Omega - 'The Synarchy of Molten Bones'

deathspellsynarchy

Earlier today, after a protracted tease, Deathspell Omega uploaded their new EP, The Synarchy of Molten Bones, to Bandcamp. Prior to now, only the album art and various pre order options had been available.

After one listen, I have yet to form many thoughts besides that, yes, it sounds like Deathspell Omega and yes, it’s good. This release, the first in four years, follows the Drought EP. That release pushed Deathspell’s sound into territory which, at its most calm, bore more resemblance to math-rock than black metal. That didn’t fly with some fans, even though “The Cracked Book of Life” and “Scorpions and Drought” remain two of my favorite songs in the band’s oeuvre. On first brush, The Synarchy of Molten Bones packs more overt black metal singifiers. More blasts. More trebly distortion. More menacing symphonics.

More thoughts will follow soon.

The Synarchy of Molten Bones will be out on November 8 via Norma Evangelium Diaboli. Pre orders are somehow still available here. Follow Deathspell Oemga here.
