Darkest Era: Studio diary video & track premiere

Darkest Era in the studio

. . .

There’s something so nice about gentle, goofy Northern Irish lasses and lads making heavy fucking metal. I can’t understand them half the time, but that only adds to their charm. See the above studio diary video by Darkest Era – aren’t they adorable? Sarah Weighell has a hat with ears. Lisa Howe is no slouch on the drums. Dwayne “Krum” Maguire can really sing (a formidable selection of folk songs). And, man, Wales! That’s where Darkest Era recorded The Last Caress of Light, out February 15 on Metal Blade. It’s so green.

The above video shows the drums and vocals tracking for “An Ancient Fire Burns”, one of my favorite songs on Last Caress. (It also has Copperplate Gothic font, one of my favorite fonts.) You can hear this mighty song below. This is not sit-down metal. You do not zone out to it. You do not put it in the background. You go to battle to it. Saddle up!
