The last time we heard from Danava was just about seven years ago, and twelve in terms of full-lengths. The stoner rock fiends among our readers hopefully remember their triumphant third album Hemisphere of Shadows, which boasted excessively weird album art that I can immediately recall (though not what it actually depicts -- uh, some sort of man-bug fighting another?) and wild, blues-laden stoner rock that might as well have been proto-metal out of the 1970s. The Portland-based group had an uncharacteristic grasp of how to make their music actually rock, and weren't just duct-taping together retro tropes in hopes of triggering some nostalgia trap in listeners' brains. This is still pretty novel, actually.

As if correcting some cosmic imbalance, Danava is back seemingly out of nowhere with a new heaping of righteousness, Nothing but Nothing. It toes a glorious line between primitive heavy metal and drug-fueled prog rock, all saturated in an indulgent amount of fuzz and vintage production. We're premiering "Let the Good Times Kill" below, which kicks off with a mean hook and steadily gets more and more unhinged. The second half of the track includes some extravagant lead work that showcases both the band's musical chops as well as their ability to take extremely unconventional structures and squeeze every last drop of rock out of them. Indulge below and read on for tour dates.
