Damim World Turned Hell

Damim's Progressive Black Metal Explores a "World Turned Hell" (Early EP Stream)

With a new guitarist having signed on right after their last full-length A Fine Game of Nil and live shows’ ongoing resurgence, the time was certainly right for new material from UK progressive extreme metal specialists Damim. Out this Friday, World Turned Hell gives us two new tracks and two excellent live takes of two tracks off their latest full-length. We’re streaming the whole EP below, which offers a snapshot of where Damim is going and where they came from.

Both halves underscore the dazzling complexity that makes Damim’s approach to black and death metal so special. Not so complex as to be unparseable, in this significantly vocal-driven approach guitars and drums shift and flex like interlocking tides. The band deftly switches between ominous grooves and up-tempo firestorms, anchoring themselves to imaginative riffs and engaging songwriting. That focus translates to the two live tracks on this EP completely ripping, too.

Guitarist/lead vocalist Nathanael comments:

World Turned Hell is our first ever EP. Without wanting to venture too far into the realms of insufferable cliché, we always want to provide both the fans and our collaborating label with something special. The material breaks new ground in many ways while simultaneously being firmly rooted in our existing artistic identity. It is also the first release featuring a prominent contribution from our not-so-new guitarist Nik in the form of his triumphant solo at the end of the title track. Having had Neil Kernon (Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Judas Priest) on mixing duties again is a delight and a privilege, not to mention the key to consolidating our idiosyncratic sound and atmosphere. The artwork this time was brought to life by Alan O’Neil, who crafts our “The Bloodied” comic. This opus will delight and surprise in equal measure and, starting with Tolminator fest this summer, we cannot wait to bring this to new crowds at all of our upcoming shows.

World Turned Hell releases June 2nd via Church Road Records.
