"Hit or Miss," Common Wounds' Surly Post-Hardcore Leaves a Mark (Video Premiere)

Common Wounds are a new post-hardcore band out of Phoenix, AZ, but its members come from bands like Landmine Marathon, Run with the Hunted, and more. That said, Common Wounds doesn’t so much pull from these past enterprises as it draws inspiration from bands like Rites of Spring, Fugazi, and even Helmet. Their upcoming self-titled five-track EP does an excellent job of creating a sound that is heavy, jangly, and metallic without sacrificing their identity or their individuality.

Today, we bring you the video premiere for the track “Hit or Miss,” which is shot through a wavy rainbow filter. It offers a beautiful, brief, yet chaotic delve into the band’s sound. This track barely tops three minutes, but it’s a perfect encapsulation of what this band can do. The opening riff sounds like it could be something off of Helmet’s Betty, however the speed at which it gets delivered stays relatively uniform–save for some sped up sections to appease their own hardcore tendencies, arriving back at the main riff in true noise rock fashion. I’m looking forward to even more of this, because when these five tracks are done with their 20 minute run-through, it’s simply evident that we should do it all over again.

The Common Wounds EP releases March 10th via Protagonist Music.
