Celestial Grave - "Burial Ground Trance" (EP Premiere)

I generally like to cover the cutting edge, or at least the punctuated and unique here at Invisible Oranges. However, even with all the “post-” this, “progressive” that, and “avant-garde” whatever, it is important, nay, necessary, to recognize and appreciate the traditional, especially when performed well. Finland’s Celestial Grave aren’t doing anything new with their debut cassette Burial Ground Trance, but this brief bout of infectious, gloriously composed black metal is a strong reminder that no matter what new heights you try to reach, the base work of strong songwriting is the focal point here. Good songwriting before experimenting is a woefully under practiced art form which Celestial Grave’s rabid, atmospheric gait newly perfects. New black metal’s experimental heights are one thing, but Celestial Grave’s “reiteration of the wheel” is to be respected and admired. There are only three songs, but Burial Ground Trance has me excited for Celestial Grave’s future.

Don’t miss the Burial Ground Trance EP, which is slated for release later this month via Iron Bonehead Productions. Listen to the full EP below.
