Caïna/Cara Neir - "Caïna / Cara Neir" (Split EP Premiere)

caina

Though previous reports of Caïna‘s demise were largely exaggerated, it seems Andy Curtis-Brignell’s long-standing solo project has been laid to rest, transforming this long-fabled split release with Texans Cara Neir, a showcase of “post-black metal”‘s extent, into the project’s epitaph. The harsh, industrial edge of “Rhosneigr”‘s dark, ethereal atmospheres bridges the gap between Setter of Unseen Snares‘s crusty-inflected depths and the electronic expanse of last year’s Christ Clad In White Phosphorus – a strange, satisfying end to Caïna’s bizarre discography.

Cara Neir continues to be fresh, fusing multi-instrumentalist Garry Brents’s strong grasp of black metal, dark hardcore, post-rock and screamo with Chris Francis’s berserker vocal presence. “Stained Grey Bones” showcases a similar character to last year’s Perpetual Despair Is The Human Condition, but even leaner. Marked with dime-stop turns and equally as fast genre transmogrification, Cara Neir’s status as one of current black metal’s most intriguing entities remains steadfast.

This brief, adventurous split will be released May 12th, but can be pre-ordered now from Broken Limbs Recordings. You can stream the entire split below.
