Bison B.C. - Quiet Earth

Bison B.C. blend genres admirably on their Metal Blade debut Quiet Earth, a more complete package than their first release Earthbound. Molding together sludge riffs, prog metal solos, and thrash-like melodies, Bison B.C. leave little breathing room. They strike with gusto in “Primal Emptiness of Outer Space.” Dual guitarists and vocalists James Farwell and Dan And never lose the momentum. No instrument clouds over another. Percussion and riffs balance harmoniously; vocals aren’t too upfront. The effect is similar, but not equal to Mastodon. The fiery “Slow Hand of Death” features the harsh pipes of Jamie Hooper of 3 Inches of Blood. The band’s stamina is unforgiving, except in the orchestrated fluff of “Wendigo Pt. 1 (Quest For Fire).” Among contemporary mush that struggles for originality, Bison B.C. prevail. It’s the heaviness that counts.
