Big Willowtip update!

. . .

The latest Willowtip Records newsletter contained a slew of exciting album updates that I couldn’t help but share. (See above.) Evidently pre-orders for the Ulcerate record (see commentary here) may be available next week. Now, let’s parse all the goodness contained above.

. . .

putridity – recording done need full art

. . .

At least the cover is done:

It’s by Jon Zig. The album is called Degenerating Anthropophagical Euphoria. (See details here.) Putridity, an Italian band, play a more straightforward, brutal style of death metal than is typical for Willowtip. Below you can hear “Innate Butchery Aptitude”, an unmixed/unmastered taste of the new record. Also, you can order shot glasses for Putridity (and other brutal death metal bands) here.

. . .

maruta – will be in stores on Feb 23 preorders soon

. . .

Good news! Since we last checked in on Maruta, they’ve added a new bassist and drummer. I, for one, look forward to more face-peeling death/grind from them.

. . .

electro quarterstaff – recording has been done for a long time but still no art cause they are waiting on the guy who did gretzky art to have time to do it and all his time is taken by this big sculpture he is doing i’m told

. . .

This is a ridiculous reason to hold up an album. If you don’t know Electro Quarterstaff, you should. They are crazy – sort of a missing link between Dysrhythmia and Behold… The Arctopus. Instrumental technical insanity!

. . .

dim mak – drums for the new album are finished, the remaining tracking should be done sometime in November

. . .

Great news! Those drums are by the mighty John Longstreth. If you don’t know Dim Mak, you should. They’re a big influence on Flourishing, whom we reviewed here. Militant, technical death metal!

. . .

gigan – enter studio November 10th

. . .

Greater news! Many slept on their 2008 record The Order of the False Eye, which was like Morbid Angel and Voivod jamming in a room filled with weed smoke. Hopefully a release on Willowtip will result in greater exposure for Gigan. Incidentally, both they and Dim Mak feature ex-members of Hate Eternal.

. . .

vale of pnath – recording now, album will be finished by end of november

. . .

I wasn’t into the EP Vale of Pnath released on Tribunal last year, but obviously Willowtip see (or hear) something that I don’t. Lots of widdly-widdly playing.

. . .

malignancy – they’ve been working on it for awhile should be ready spring 2011

. . .

I’ve never gotten into Malignancy, either. I’ve seen them twice, I think, and each time it was piles of riffs and pinch harmonics in songs that never got started. Did anyone catch them at MDF this year? If so, how was it?

. . .

alarum – one day it will be done its recorded and needs mixed/mastered

. . .

Greatest news! I’ve been waiting years for a new record from Alarum, Australia’s answer to Cynic. They even have a headless guitar! See the so-bad-it’s-good video below. Hello, cheesy effects! This kind of metal is a bit on the “make sure no one else is around” side. I suppose being a public fan of such metal indicates some degree of self-confidence.
