Aureole - "II: Flight Over Aurora Borealis" (Song Premiere)

Follow-ups to debut albums can be tricky: if your first album shows promise, the second adopts great responsibility. We seek emotional resolve to the past experience, but also progress. Aureole, a one-man atmospheric black metal project, steps up next Monday with their follow-up, Aurora Borealis. You can now stream the album’s second track, “II: Flight Over Aurora Borealis” below.

Aureole cornerstones atmosphere, beyond other acts such as Mare Cognitum, with whom they shared a split earlier this year. “II: Flight Over Aurora Borealis” wastes no time propagating fuzzy waves of synth which overpower both guitars and vocals (in a good way). The wall-of-sound dynamic is taken to its limit here, touching the border between cohesive noise-walls and structural detachment.

Aureole relishes in concrete abstraction, and this track in particular acts as a microcosm. It targets a sonic catharsis while maintaining solid footing.

Aurora Borealis will be released next Monday, November 28, on Fallen Empire Records.
