Apostle of Solitude: Splits & Rehearsal Videos

Apostle of Solitude – “Death by Misadventure”
Rehearsal video

. . .

If you want honest, well-crafted, durable heavy metal, try Apostle of Solitude. You may remember Last Sunrise (review), which featured some of the best doom, as well as perhaps the worst album cover, of last year. For me, the operative word is “soul”. This band is genuine and skilled, a rare combination.

The current lineup features two ex-Gates of Slumber drummers – neither of whom are drumming. Chuck Brown sings and plays guitar, and Bob Fouts plays bass. Check ’em out in these well-produced rehearsal videos. “Death by Misadventure” is from the band’s split with Dawnrider earlier this year. This one-sided 180g 12″ (side two features etchings of the bands’ logos) is hard to find, with only 500 copies pressed. Two European distros, PsycheDOOMelic and Throne, are carrying it now; Americans can try eBay, where this listing shows eight copies available.

“This Mania” is from the split with The Flight of Sleipnir and Rituals of the Oak, out earlier this year on Eyes Like Snow. I reviewed this in the October ’11 issue of Decibel (Mastodon cover, out now) and recommend it, not just for the fine music but also for the beautiful album cover. You can get the CD and vinyl (purple or black) directly from The Flight of Sleipnir and Rituals of the Oak. Those bands are also worth your attention.
