The pedal settings said Sweden: Heavy Metal HM-2, all knobs all the way up. I wish guitarists would get their own tones these days, but when they’re in bands this good, I can’t mind. Acephalix give the Sunlight sound Bay Area punk attitude, and come up smelling like crusty roses. They have one of the hard-hitting drummers I’ve ever heard. It makes a difference. Loads of bands have this Swedish sound, but none sound this steel-plated. Disparate sounds converging into one mammoth, hairy force – the body reacts; it has to. The force obliterates neuroses. It rolls over you. You can kvetch with the usual arguments, or you can learn for yourself.
