Morbid Angel Enter The Studio With Annihilated Drummer

According to a post on Trey Azagthoth’s Facebook, tenured death metal legends Morbid Angel have begun recording new material with Erik Rutan at Rutan’s Mana Studios and have tapped Scott Fuller of Annihilated to play drums on their new record. Fuller replaces the perpetually shirtless Tim Yeung, who played on 2011’s Illud Divinium Insanus and has since joined former Morbid Angel singer David Vincent in I Am Morbid, a glorified Morbid Angel cover band. Judging from his work with Annihilated, Scott Fuller will certainly have the chops to handle whatever Azagthoth throws at him, and Rutan, another Morbid Angel alum, is about as a reliable a producer as you can find in extreme metal. All of this points to the next Morbid Angel album, whose title will likely begin with the letter ‘K’ per the band’s alphabetical tradition, being a professionally sound piece of work. Whether the same can be said of Azagthoth’s songwriting is TBD. It will be very hard to wash out the terrible taste that Illud left in fan’s mouths, and the tabloid messiness that hovers around Azagthoth and Vincent isn’t exactly the best indicator either. Still, hope springs eternal, and Morbid Angel’s classic material earns Azagthoth some wiggle room. Read Azagthoth’s Facebook post below.

You can also stream Annihilated’s album XXIII Steps to Ruination, along with Illud Divinium Inanus below, although why you would choose to do the later is beyond me.
