Bestial black/death metal (click for a valuable commenter discussion on war metal) is an acquired taste, even among fans of metal—it’s abrasive and chaotic and seems to push almost every boundary. It would be hard for any metal fan to deny, though, that Prosanctus Inferi’s new album Noctambulous Jaws Within Sempiternal Night absolutely rips. The Columbus, Ohio duo’s second full-length blasts from A to Z with unassuming technical chops and a good sense of melody—its eight songs are full of surprising, if sometimes subtle, twists and turns while never letting off the gas. The result satisfies both primal and more artistic leanings.
