1349 full album stream

1349‘s new album Demonoir is streaming in its entirety at Stereogum. (It comes out April 27 on Prosthetic. Pre-order it here or here.)

Demonoir sounds surprisingly cohesive. After Revelations of the Black Flame (reviewed here), an ambient middle finger to the band’s fans, 1349 have returned mostly to black metal. The ambient/doom bits that Revelations introduced fit more seamlessly into songs now. Demonoir is neither “genre-expanding” nor “mindboggling”, as its press hype says. But it’s at least worthy of a second listen. I’m curious what the nature of Tom G. Warrior’s “production” was. I’d also love to see the liner notes to see what’s going with the “Tunnel of Set” interludes.

The record seems to have two covers. The first one below seems to be for the European release on Indie. The second one seems to be for the US release on Prosthetic. (That cover seems to have a different color/contrast variation, perhaps to distinguish jewel case and digipak versions?)

Regardless of what the hood looks like, opening it shouldn’t yield such a steaming disaster as last time.
