Vista Chino on tour - Kyuss lives with a new name

. . .

Remember the band Kyuss? Yeah, that’s what I thought. John Garcia, Brant Bjork, and Nick Oliveri have called themselves Kyuss Lives!. Now, Garcia’s new material and his songs written for Kyuss have their own name: Vista Chino. Along with guitarist Bruno Fevery, who toured with Kyuss Lives!, the band has a slew of tour dates around the world coming up.

As many splits are, Kyuss’s was particularly messy. Kyuss Guitarist Josh Homme and bassist Scott Reeder sued over the group’s use of the Kyuss name in 2012. The Kyuss lite group was able to tour as Kyuss Lives! but not release or record music. Oliveri is a walking pile of trouble…in 2011 he was arrested for a domestic altercation and was prevented from leaving the country–making it hard for a touring-only band to tour. Still, Oliveri and the Queens of the Stone Age peeps seems to be working on their friendly relations–the Facebook page of Oliveri’s band Mondo Generator noted that he recently recorded vocals for a new QOTSA tune.

Garcia is a great frontman, and a good songwriter. He wrote some of Kyuss’s most memorable songs (like “One Inch Man”)m and a rare chance to see his band Unida a few years ago proved that he’s still got that hot desert blood swagger.

Stream the new track “Dragona Dragona” below from the band’s upcoming LP Peace? due on 9/3 via Napalm Records.
