Wasteland Earth: Vile Creature's "Water, Tinted Gold & Tainted Copper"

Most days, the world feels like shit. Water is non-potable, the sky is grey with soot, our food largely inedible. If you truly think about it, we live in a non-romanticized apocalyptic wasteland, something fully beyond Aldous Huxley’s worst, medication-fearing nightmares. The irony of living in a wealthy nation and feeling institutionally poisoned is certainly not lost on me, and yet everything feels hopeless. So crushingly doomed.

Poison, this death of the world at the hands of mechanisms and industrialized chaos: Canadian doom duo Vile Creature sees it, too. Cast of Static and Smoke, the band’s second full-length, weaves a dystopian tale of a dead Earth ruled by horrific overlords, set to an absolutely crushing doom soundtrack. Though Vile Creature has certainly cemented themselves as one of the heavier examples of new, atmospheric sludge/doom metal, there is something all the more nightmarish and horrific found within this upcoming effort. Melodic and ethereal, Vile Creature still manages to exude this disembodied dread, a tension which never ceases throughout the album in its entirety. The moments of respite are brief, only before Vic and KW bring down the hammer again and again. “A boot stamping on a human face — forever.”

Cast of Static and Smoke will be released March 9th by Halo of Flies Records and Dry Cough Records, along with a tape edition to be released by the band themselves (see the link below). Head below for an advance listen to “Water, Tinted Gold & Tainted Copper” with an accompanying video.
