Video debut: The Body - "An Altar Or a Grave"

As a rule, Providence, RI’s The Body make music that sounds like the ways you really don’t want to die. Prolonged, sorrowful, and ugly, the band’s dissonant sludge metal possesses both a panicked urgency and a painful sense of resignation.
Hence their new video for “An Altar Or A Grave” off of their forthcoming record Christs, Redeemers, out October 15th on Thrill Jockey. (Preorder it here.) The video is about either someone being drowned or having their weighted corpse dumped deep water; either way, the blurred fluttering of the occasional milky-white hand jutting from the bundle of sinking, sodden rags says too much, about awful things. The string and vocal melodies interwoven throughout the bands plodding, toxic riffs simply drive home the feeling of despair and claustrophobia that exists in the silent, heavy tomb beneath the surface.

The band has also announced a run of North American dates, including a Halloween show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn (which will undoubtedly be pretty weird) and a show with Neurosis in Portland in late November (which will undoubtedly be pretty awesome; you can buy tickets here).
