Ursinne - "Bullet Bitten" (Song Premiere)

ursinne

Last week, while premiering a song by Ash Cloud, I expounded on the merits of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Jonny Pettersson, who will release four records this year each with a different project. Each is a death metal album, and each is worth listening to.

Swim with the Leviathan, the first album by his project Ursinne invokes Bolt Thrower as a primary influence. That band’s sound is easy to reproduce but difficult to master, as many mediocre clones attest. Pettersson comes close to the challenge by landing Dave Ingram on vocals. Ingram sang in Benediction and Bolt Thrower, as well as in Hail of Bullets, probably the best Bolt Thrower clone I can think of. Hail of Bullets is no more, and neither is Bolt Thrower which leaves Ursinne and Memoriam boxing for the two bands’ abdicated throne. Judging by “Bullet Bitten”, streaming below, Ursinne have what it takes. The groves are rock-solid, and the melody that dominates the center portion of the song evokes the same weary atmosphere that infuses Ingram’s best work.

Swim With the Leviathan will be released on August 20 via Transcending Obscurity. Order it here.  Follow Ursinne on Facebook.
