Upcoming Metal Releases: November 3 - 9, 2013
Metal’s momentous year is still on the move, despite seemingly emptying its chambers during last week’s deluge. November, if this span of seven days is any indication, will continue balancing the tried and true with the shiny and new. The folksy Falkenbach‘s longboat is back in the dock, while the Melvins are the Melvins; just more (perhaps less?) Melvinier. Elsewhere, Germ and Zemial graft new pieces onto old templates, while Nocturno Culto revels in the cult cardboard causing his vinyl shelves to bow.
Of Note is particularly ripe for the picking, counting Cara Neir‘s clever post-black crash and Enabler‘s crushing crust among its blossoms. If death is your desire, Cathexis, Convulse, and Sordid Flesh all find the sweet spot via different angles. And, if weird is the way you want to go, there’s plenty of progression (and possible irritation) present. Appalachian Winter and OvO‘s goal is to challenge, albeit in ways that measure differently on the intentional-agitation-creation scale.
