Tombs Monarchy Shadows

Tombs Releasing "Monarchy of Shadows" on Season of Mist, Share Title Track

Brooklyn’s Tombs have announced a followup to 2017’s The Grand Annihilation (Metal Blade), Monarchy of Shadows, due February 28th via Season of Mist (their first for the label). The album description says “Monarchy of Shadows is the fastest and most vicious blackened metal from Tombs to date, showcasing the quartet’s metallic precision without sacrificing the bleak post-punk leanings that set the critically-acclaimed band apart,” and going by the just-released title track, that sounds pretty spot on. This song finds the often-sludgy Tombs at their most blackened and whiplash-inducing, and the ferocity is contrasted with some gloomy goth rock vocals that wouldn’t have sounded out of place in Swans or 1980s 4AD. It’s a monster of a song, as you can hear for yourself below.
