Scab Casserole and IO editor emeritus Fred Pessaro hosted the weekly Invisible Oranges show last night. Scab and Fred chatted with A389 Records boss Dom; IO will be co-sponsoring A389’s retardedly cool tenth-anniversary bash. You can still nab tickets for the fest’s first day (featuring Infest and Haymaker) here, and for the second day (featuring Integrity, All Out War, and Bloodlet) here. Speaking of tickets, Fred and Scab also gave away tickets to Watain‘s show at Irving Plaza on 10/8 with In Solitude (who topped the first significant year-end list of 2013) and Tribulation. Last night’s show (10/1) is now available in an archived stream and on the EVMobile app, as well as on their site. Next week (10/8) at 10pm, we’ll be chatting with Jesse Madre of local strongmen Tiger Flowers. He’s a talker; don’t miss it.

Aaaaand speaking of live music more broadly speaking, the IO-sponsored Kylesa/Pinkish Black/Tribulation tour kicked off last night with a show in Athens, GA. It lasts all month, so you likely haven’t yet missed it yet.

Doug Moore and Fred Pessaro chatted with Luc Lemay and Kevin Hufnagel of the mighty Gorguts last night on the weekly Invisible Oranges show. This was the second time we’ve interviewed Gorguts recently; this time around, the conversation ranged from the genesis of the band’s new lineup to Lemay’s infamous tour fanny pack. Our DJ sets included multiple tracks from the new Gorguts, material by Hufnagel’s dreampop/black metal fusion project Vaura, and several picks by Lemay himself. The East Village Radio show from last night (9/3) is now available in an archived stream and on the EVMobile app. Head below to see playlist of some of the tracks from last night’s broadcast.

Tune in again on September 9th at 10PM ET for the next edition of Invisible Oranges on East Village Radio, when John Caution from Weekend Nachos will be joining us.

Stream: Iron Man – “Hail to the Haze” https://www.invisibleoranges.com/stream-iron-man-hail-to-the-haze/ Thu, 29 Aug 2013 19:16:04 +0000 https://www.invisibleoranges.com/stream-iron-man-hail-to-the-haze/

Maryland’s Iron Man started out as a Black Sabbath tribute band, but eventually evolved into a project of its own within it’s fertile local doom metal scene. Featuring the riffs of Alfred Morris III (who looks-a-little-like/is-doom-metal’s-answer-to Fred Williamson – a bad motherfucker), the Maryland doom crew has expanded on the teachings of sensae Iommi over the years, and now are readying a new album at Rise Above/Metal Blade with South of the Earth. Stream the new track “Hail to the Haze” from that effort below and order your copy of the LP via the label on 10/1.

Album Stream: Psychic Limb – ‘Jamaica’ https://www.invisibleoranges.com/album-stream-psychic-limb-jamaica/ Wed, 28 Aug 2013 23:22:51 +0000 https://www.invisibleoranges.com/album-stream-psychic-limb-jamaica/ Jamaica

Brooklyn quartet Psychic Limb combine classic New York Hardcore with grindcore, carrying with them a “fuck you” attitude that drives their furious punk rock. After releasing their initial LP Queens, Psychic Limb have returned with their latest effort Jamaica (get it?) another dozen burners that blaze by in under 10 minutes. Jamaica is currently streaming in full via Bandcamp, and is available on vinyl and in a pay-what-you-want digital format. Head below for a stream of both LPs.

Psychic Limb contains ex-members of Dillinger Escape Plan, The Assailant and Ovens among others, and the LP is their second recorded by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia, Behold… The Arctopus) and on Clairvoyant Recordings (headed by IO’s own Fred Pessaro). Artwork was handled by Andy Gilmore.

Speedtrap‘s speed metal entry Powerdose is a fist-raising triumph of Bruce-Dickinson-ian style vocals with pedal-to-the-floor thrash, resulting in a hell of a release due via Svart Records on August 23rd. The band has made their new LP Powerdose available for stream, check that out below.
