Skullcrush's Death Metal Blinds Us, Then Gives Us "Nightmares for the Blind"
…
I’m partial to things whose packaging and/or nomenclature depict precisely what’s inside. In the case of Skullcrush, you get exactly what you expect: a good ol’ skull-crushing. We’re talking OSDM here, of course, but that which has been imbued with an extra-raw chunkiness to offset the now-standard HM-2-sounding guitar fuzz. The band’s debut effort Archaic Towers of Annihilation lands next Friday, but we’ve got an early stream of a new song below to showcase the sour vitriol of this band’s onslaught. This is grimy, sewer-dwelling slime in all the right ways, leaving trails of filth in your mind as the song blasts by like a speeding, on-fire train.

The first thing apparent from “Nightmares for the Blind” is that Skullcrush just don’t give a fuck. The song (and album as a whole) banks on huge taco riffs, monstrous demon stomps, and plenty of blegh! to round out a superbly catchy package. This is not the prog-saturated OSDM we’ve been swimming in for a while now, but rather the distillation of all that old-school vibe into something which actually slaps a bit like hardcore would. This is perfect music for cruising down the highway pissed-off, or throwing down in your bedroom alone for no particular reason. This is definitely mosh fuel, but it’s not so over-the-top in terms of crowd-pleasers that we feel jipped by gimmickry or anything. Nope, Skullcrush is the real deal, mean and nasty to the core.

Archaic Towers of Annihilation releases via Redefining Darkness Records (US) and Raw Skullz Recordz (EU). Skullcrush vocalist High Seeker of Apocrypha says the following about “Nightmares for the Blind”:
“Nightmares for the Blind” touches on humanity’s inability to confront the consequences of its creations. At its core it is about subconscious self-destruction.
