Ringworm and 20+ Years of Patience: Live Photos/Video from Acheron

Ringworm

If there was ever a Rodney Dangerfield of heavy music (“no respect“), one of my top contenders would be Ringworm. Sitting perfectly in the pocket between metal and hardcore, this Clevo crew clearly take bands like Voivod, Slayer, Kiss and Venom seriously (judging by their tattoos) but filter that through punk rock and negative hardcore.

Ringworm formed in 1991 and soon after released a certified hardcore classic with The Promise. Though the band has consistently released good material since and has a live show to match, Ringworm has spent much of the past twenty-plus years in the shadow of another similarly themed titan, Integrity, who also mixed Slayer-riffery with their hardcore and hailed from Cleveland too. Hopefully that will all change with the band’s recent announcement that they signed to Relapse Records; Ringworm are the underdogs when they could be the top dogs.

Ringworm played Acheron on March 3rd, part of a string of dates for the Cleveland band. A complete juggernaut of a live band, you can check out pictures and video from Ringworm’s appearance below. Don’t miss them if they come to your town.
