Rammstein Unveil "Deutschland" Music Video, a New Single from Upcoming Self-Titled Full-Length

Legendary rockers Rammstein released a new music video today for “Deutschland,” a track from their upcoming seventh full-length album Rammstein due out on May 17th. The self-titled album will be the first Rammstein full-length in nearly a decade — by the look and sound of “Deutschland,” the band’s penchant for political messaging is neatly packaged within Rammstein’s signature blend of hard rock, industrial, and metal.

“Deutschland” seems to raise questions about human moral failure, coming to terms with a country’s dark history, and the negative effects of social division. That said, and considering the poetic nature of the band’s lyrics, much is left open for personal interpretation and understanding in the Rammstein context. The video is not without controversy, though (something Rammstein are intimately familiar with): the band have been accused of “irresponsibly” trivializing the holocaust, for instance, in the video’s sometimes gruesome depictions.

The end result is a distinctively Rammstein video and song. “Deutschland” balances its balladic choruses well, eschewing the harder-hitting stuff for a smoother, more melodic delivery all around. The song is less of an exercise in instrumentation than it is in atmosphere and vivid visuals. We’ll have to wait to see whether Rammstein‘s other tracks mirror the softer, more nuanced approach on “Deutschland”; that said, it appears Rammstein’s fire has not dwindled yet, even in the slightest.
