Pissed On - "Zoetic Disgrace" (Song Premiere)

Eighty-four seconds. That’s the duration of “Zoetic Disgrace,” the third track from Kentucky-based grind duo Pissed On’s upcoming EP The Hanged Man. Given those parameters, one might reasonably expect yet another retread of the somewhat one-dimensional sound of early Agoraphobic Nosebleed: jackhammer drum programming, hyperkinetic riffing and all the subtlety of repeated shovel blows to the face.

A reasonable expectation, sure – but completely off base.

If anything, Pissed On owes more of a stylistic debt to bands like Converge in the way that they adroitly meld disparate influences to create punishingly abrasive music. “Zoetic Disgrace” brings together elements from power electronics, chaotic hardcore, heavy mosh and even a bit of old-school death metal, but it does so organically – each section flows seamlessly into the next, and the track never feels overstuffed with ideas.

According to the band, their goal for The Hanged Man was to draw “influence from a wide variety of acts such as Pig Destroyer, Discordance Axis, Swans, and Noothgrush as well as imbuing the sounds of hardcore, grindcore, black metal, harsh noise, and death metal. Thematically, this record carries a narrative through 5 songs; a nihilist writes a final manifesto, in an attempt to warn the world of our true lack of purpose and the discouraging and sometimes relieving fact that we all die.”

Did they succeed? Find out by listening to our exclusive premiere of “Zoetic Disgrace.” Spoiler alert: they totally succeed.
