Old Wounds Tour Update 2: Canada

. . .

Invisible Oranges is sponsoring the “Death Projection” tour by New Jersey metallic hardcore maniacs Old Wounds, alongside Exalt, in celebration of their new LP Death Projections. Old Wound drummer Brandon Gallagher is keeping all of us here at home base up-to-date on the shows and shenanigans. — Ed.

After two strong shows in both Grand Rapids and Royal Oak, Michigan, we once again headed back to the Great White North. After some post show hangs, and quite a few dollar menu burritos, we made our trek to the border. With no hassle there we barreled through and headed towards Ajax, Ontario, where our first show was located.

We rolled up to the venue, only to find out that it was in the basement of a Caribbean Roti restaurant. It was very odd, because the spot was super punk. There was a Batman poster from 1989 hanging up right next to a 2004 Dillinger Escape Plan Australian tour poster. Very bizarre but so sick. Also, to my surprise there is an actual chain of beer stores in Canada called “The Beer Store.” Also very sick. The show went off, and it was an excellent way to begin our trek in Canada.

The following day was Koi Fest in Kitchener, Ontario. A whole two-block radius of downtown is blocked off and there are seven stages all within a mile of each other. We got there early in the a.m., locked down our merch spot, and let the hanging out begin. Throughout the day we got to see the likes of Exalt, The World Is A Beautiful Place, Counterparts, and the almighty Every Time I Die. ETID was supposed to play this Warped Tour-esque outdoor stage, but due to the rain, they were moved to a small 300 capacity venue. Solid move for everyone involved. Kids were climbing up the poles into the rafters and diving 20 feet deep into the swarm of kids losing their minds. We capped off the night with a trip to a club called Abstract, Kitchener’s premiere “Goth Club.” We walked in and they were blasting Daft Punk, and some pretty non-goth selections. We needed to change that. After a request to play Nine Inch Nails, the playlist slowly turned in our favor, busting out all the nu-metal hits such as Marilyn Manson, Powerman 5000, and Korn. Overall another solid day in Canada.

After a day off filled with all-you-can-eat sushi and a football and movie marathon, we made our way out to Montreal. Montreal is my favorite Canadian city and it always treats us well. The show was probably one of the better attended shows on the trip. A night full of drink tickets, vegan burritos hand crafted by punks, and late night walks around the city finished up another solid run of Canadian shows. The following day we went to Parc Du Mont Royal, which ruled, but due to our dumb asses we were late to our show in Haverhill because we got stoned and got lost. We were traded a stupid amount of pot for a single shirt, what were we supposed to do, throw it out?

Leaving Canada, we begin our home stretch of shows, and we’ll end the tour in NYC. Until then.
