Nekrasov Vaporizes Brains with “Treachery of the Yoke” Video

lust of consciousness

If there was a feeling that the previous Nekrasov full-length Lust of Consciousness had gone a bit too cybernetic, then focus back on its sixth track “Treachery of the Yoke” for some soothing power. It is, of course, not without its avant-garde charms, but is still structurally a much straighter shooter than the rest of the album’s songs, being comprised of a ripping blast beat and alternating waves of squalorous guitar and noise sections. The blast beat never lets up, though, forging a fierce backbone and sense of permanent propulsion on which all of the other sonic elements are arrayed. There is a riff that recurs that reminds of the stark architecturalism of something like Krallice, guitars interlocking in a spider’s web of notes like lines on a grid more than the primal animalistic power one might typically associate with black metal.

We’re honored to host a premiere of the new music video for “Treachery of the Yoke” below.

The fusion of these three elements (the animalistic, the architectural, the noise) feel not just like a microcosm of Nekrasov’s sound but also of performer Bob Nekrasov’s work in Rebel Wizard as well. The two projects, both one-man projects helmed by the same man, always felt linked in that they both played black metal, but Nekrasov seemed substantially more cerebral and conceptual compared to its more off-the-cuff and gut-level sibling. “Treachery of the Yoke” feels like a bridging of the chasm, wielding the same kind of speed metal melodicism against black metal beats and picking as Rebel Wizard while incorporating the avant-garde textures that made The Mirror Void such a big hit when it came out.

Lust of Consciousness released April 12, 2019 via Prosthetic Records.
