Nails - Unsilent Death

. . .

I am always on the lookout for bands that sound like they want to kill you.

Many talk that talk, but few walk that walk.

Usually what happens is that after all the press release boasting and photo shoot flexing and spiked wristband wearing, bands get all pretty in the studio. They start futzing around with grids and BPM’s, and before you know it, the world has yet more sterile, plastic product.

As Ash said: First you want to kill me. Then you want to kiss me. Blow.

Nails are not like that.

On Obscene Humanity, which I reviewed here, they wanted to kill you. On Unsilent Death, they still want to kill you. They want to kill you. Indubitably. Unequivocally.

The method of killing has changed. In Obscene Humanity, it occurred with a knife in the kitchen. In Unsilent Death, it’s with a Louisville Slugger on the front lawn, in full view of the neighbors.

Such upfront-ness comes courtesy of Kurt Ballou, who dials up his trademark beefy, analog grit. The press description of “Entombed as a powerviolence band” pretty much sums it up. Power. Violence. Nails are both.

They also know their history:

. . .

Nails don’t belong on wristbands. They belong in your face, embedded and rotating at 33 1/3 RPM.
