Myrkraverk Take a Full-Length Leap on "Naer Døden"

Myrkraverk

Almost two decades ago, Norwegian black metal duo Myrkraverk emerged from nothingness. They have since only since released two EPs, and never a full-length, until now. This fact is interesting in itself, but remember that it has no necessary bearing on the music. Also, scarcity and obscurity are two different things. A task well done is a task well done, and patience is a virtue; assuredly, though, it’s nice when it’s blatantly obvious that nothing was rushed.

So, with heightened attention to precise detail, members Infamroth and Blot have finally penned Naer Døden (translation: “near death”), a second-wave throwback which unfolds with flowing narrative and sumptuous death. Tracks like “Ritual” and “Instinkt” burn with the ice-cold vocals and crispy guitars which helped characterize the genre — and these mid-length bruisers are interspersed with pithier, more abstract expressions like “Rekviem.” As a modern slate inscribed with visions of the past (imagined through the present, of course), Naer Døden emerges multi-dimensional and varied.

Naer Døden will be released next Tuesday via Blut & Eisen Productions.
