Lord Mantis

Lord Mantis Share "Qliphotic Alpha" From New Album "Universal Death Church"

Lord Mantis haven’t released an album since 2014’s Death Mask, after which vocalist Charlie Fell left the band and joined Cobalt, who released the great Slow Forever with him fronting the band. Charlie ended up rejoining Lord Mantis last year, and now they’re back with their first album in five years, Universal Death Church, due November 22 via Profound Lore. Charlie and longtime guitarist/vocalist Andrew Markuszewski are once again joined by Ken Sorceron, who also played guitar on Death Mask (and leads Abigail Williams, who also just announced a new album this week), plus new drummer Bryce Butler. (Original Lord Mantis drummer Bill Bumgardner passed away in 2016, and his passing is partially what brought the band back together to release this new album in his honor.) The album also features appearances by honorary vocalist/member Dylan O’Toole of Indian (who Bill Bumgardner also drummed for), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), and Dallas Thomas (Pelican). It was produced, recorded, and mixed by Sanford Parker.

We wrote the above on BrooklynVegan when Lord Mantis released lead single “Damocles Falls” off their upcoming album Universal Death Church, and today second single “Qliphotic Alpha” has been released. Charlie Fell’s shrieks are as ear-piecing as ever, and the rest of Lord Mantis match them with a backdrop that’s at times equally punishing and at other times actually kinda pretty. Listen below.
