Curl Up and Die vocalist Mike Minnick, Kowloon Walled City members Ian Miller and Jon Howell, and Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge already play together in the baseball-themed grindcore band Puig Destroyer (named after Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig and Pig Destroyer), and more recently they formed the more serious band Less Art. For this one, Riley roped in his brother and Thrice bandmate Ed Breckenridge, meaning Less Art features Thrice’s pummeling rhythm section (though Ed plays guitar here). Their debut album Strangled Light, is due out on July 28 via Gilead Media (pre-order), and we’re premiering the new single “Wandering Ghost.” Kowloon Walled City frontman Scott Evans also recorded and mixed the album, and musically, Less Art are most similar to Kowloon Walled City’s ’90s-style post-hardcore/noise rock than to Less Art’s other related bands. “Wandering Ghost” is as good an example of this as any. Listen below.

BrooklynVegan is also presenting Less Art’s short Northeast tour in September, hitting NYC’s Mercury Lounge on 9/14, Boston’s Middle East on 9/15, DC’s Songbyrd on 9/16, and Philly’s Underground Arts on 9/17. Get tickets for NYC, DC and Philly here, and Boston here.
