Jacob Bannon's Mellow Wear Your Wounds project premieres "Goodbye Old Friend"

Converge frontman and Deathwish label founder Jacob Bannon has been teasing his side project Wear Your Wounds for some time, but their new song “Goodbye Old Friend” is the first piece of music I’ve had any chance to digest. Even though the project’s upcoming debut WYW, features guest spots from Kurt Ballou, as well as members of Trap Them, Hatebreed and The Red Chord, those expecting more warp-speed noise rock and metallic hardcore will find this track disappointing or surprising.

Bannon’s plaintive clean singing and a stripped down acoustic guitar form the basis of the song, though some percussion and a distorted guitar solo eventually join the mix. Converge has more than a few mellow tunes, and while this song resembles the last few tracks on Axe to Fall a little bit, it has far more in common with the most recent 40 Watt Sun album, or Emma Ruth Rundle’s wonderful Marked for Death LP from last year.

WYW will be released on April 7 via Deathwish. Follow Wear Your Wounds on Facebook.
