Introducing Pillorian (Ex-Agalloch, Uada)

Last month, three of the four members of Agalloch announced the formation of Khôrada with Former Giant Squid vocalist Aaron Gregory.

Today, Agalloch founding member John Haughm joins Stephen Parker of Maestus and Trevor Matthews of Uada to form a new band, Pillorian, whose debut album will be released by Eisenwald records next year.

While new music from Haughm is always a cause for celebration, this news follows Agalloch’s contentious breakup after two decades of acclaimed american black metal releases. Haughm edited the band’s official breakup statement on their Facebook page pursuant to backlash from upset fans, but hopefully new music from Pillorian will sound on-par with Agalloch’s excellent track record. Matthews recorded a stellar album earlier this year with Uada’s Devoid of Light, and his involvement has me feeling somewhat optimistic about Pillorian. That the band name evoked Agalloch’s Of Stone, Wind and Pillor EP further bolsters the idea that Pillorian will continue the Agalloch sound.
