Hot Graves - Desecration Time (7")

. . .

Americans have been getting schooled in lo-fi metal for years. We’ve had our heads so far up our asses in technical wankery that we’ve lost the will to be dirty. There have been hidden gems like Pennsylvania’s Infernal Stronghold and doom powerhouse Coffinworm. But our lo-fi output has long been surpassed by South American bands like Anal Vomit, Grave Desecrator, and Perversor. America rarely produces something that raw or potent.

Florida’s Hot Graves could slightly alter the balance of power. They’ve been unsigned since 2007, but were named band of the week on Fenriz’ blog. That’s like winning an underground metal version of The Voice. The band’s Desecration Time 7″ is a brief but potent blast that’s part Bestial Mockery and part early Sarcofago by way of the Sunshine State. There are two brittle little thrashers, “Baphomet’s Revenge” and “Desecration Time”, which ends with a Show No Mercy-style solo. The 7″ closes with a cover of Anti Cimex’ “Make My Day”. The grime is authentic murk, not studio gimmicks.

The 7″ will be released in limited edition pink and black vinyl. Hot Graves will follow this evil sliver with their first album, Knights in White Phosphorous, later this year.
