Hellride Radio, Swamp Comp Vol. I

Here are two new resources for sludge/stoner/doom metal. The first is Hellride Radio, operated by the Hellride distro. It offers streaming goodness 24/7, with a new playlist each week. Man, that Pagan Altar track is sweet. Must learn more!

The second is Swamp Comp Vol. 1, by the download blog Sludge Swamp. (See track list and “liner notes” here.) Normally, I don’t link to download blogs, as they need no help. (They likely get much more traffic than actual, substantive blogs. For proof, Google “metal blog.”) But in addition to their usual piracy, some occasionally offer legal downloads. Unsigned bands have come to realize that these blogs can distribute demos quickly and widely.

So Sludge Swamp has assembled some of its favorite unsigned bands into a free downloadable compilation. It’s slightly hit-or-miss (volume levels uneven, can’t tell some Eyehategod clones apart, metalgaze inclusions feel out of place), but it has some winners. For me, they’re Ever Circling Wolves and Black Sleep of Kali. Must learn more!
