Exclusive Track Debut: So Hideous – “YesterYear”

Serving as the opening track to Brooklyn quartet So Hideous‘s sophomore effort Laurestine, “YesterYear” begins with a strong orchestral presence before engulfing the listener in rapturous wails.

Or as guitarist and band founder Brandon Cruz describes it:

“As the notes of the opening piano strike the “man” is dying; his heartbeat slowing into the arrhythmic cadence of 7. When the percussion and full band crescendo, he’s drawn his last breath; “opens” his eyes only to wake in an unfamiliar place with strong ties to his memories. Lyrically, YesterYear deals with the blurring of dreams and memory, death as “awakening,” fugue state and the strange sensory landscape he walks through prior to finding Laurestine.”

Citing Beethoven as an influence, Cruz has also described So Hideous’s music as soundtrack scores for movies that don’t exist yet. Give “YesterYear” a listen below and that description will sound apt indeed.

In addition to the release of Laurestine on October 16 via Prosthetic Records, the band also has some US tour dates coming up with Set and Setting this fall; those can also be found below.
