Eerie - "Yeti" (Song Premiere)

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: I think black and roll is having a moment. This may be selective listening on my part. While my music fandom can slip into bias it is at least a positive bias: I seek things that I think will interest me, as opposed to things that I believe will disinterest me. Anything resembling Tribulation, Kvelertak and Midnight interests me, and those three bands have now existed in the public zeitgeist long enough that it’s tempting for new groups to experiment with their palates.

Eerie is one such band. Composed of veterans from bands like Draugar and Alaric, the band will release their self-titled debut album on July 29 on Tee Pee Records, and we’ve got their song “Yeti” for you below.

The takeaway here, really, is Moses Saarni’s drumming. He’s probably best known for his work in Futur Skullz, a criminally underrated band that, like Eerie, stood apart due to his skills behind the kit. A 9-minute song like “Yeti” ought to sound tedious in this style, but Saarni’s propulsive rolls keep things trucking right along, which is exactly what you want with anything ‘and roll’. If you don’t feel like a semi just passed within inches of your skull, you’re doing it wrong. Lucky you, Eerie definitely pack two manual gearboxes.

for what it’s worth, here’s what vocalsit Shane Baker had to say about the song:

“‘Yeti’ is about an encounter with the ancient, the violent and elusive hunting god monster of the Himalayas. It is the dark visceral nature that lurks in the unknown beyond our understanding.”
