Ecferus - 'Shadow Projection' (EP Stream)

One-man black metal offers, among other things, flexibility. Indiana’s Ecferus is taking advantage of the wide range of choices at the band’s (man’s) disposal. Sole musician Alp’s previous EP and album, Prehistory and Pangea, fixated on a technical and melodically complex take on the genre well-fitted to his anthropological and biological lyrical themes.

This EP, Shadow Projection, is a little different. Well, a lot different, all things considered. The whole voyage of the Beagle angle has been jettisoned in favor of more well-trod (but still interesting) Jungian themes. More importantly, though, the music’s shed much of its delicate filigrees in favor of balls-to-the-wall Norwegian attack worship, and the results pitch and yaw as well as rock and roll without delving into Mayhem-ish morass.

Shadow Projection is out this Friday via Foreign Sounds/Children of the Night. Follow Ecferus on Facebook.
