Cloak's "A Voice in the Night" Speaks Black-'n'-Roll Effortlessly (New Music Video)

We know for sure, by now at least, that black metal can be made to rock. Atlanta four-piece Cloak know this too, which explains how their upcoming sophomore release The Burning Dawn contains both lighter-raising triumphancy and grimace-inducing bleakness. As common in black-‘n’-roll, the vocal approach is heavily influenced by black metal, whereas the music itself adopts that classic mid-paced, riff-focused groove endemic to, well, rock. Cloak offers up a more dynamic blend than most, though, without over-kvlting the vocals or getting too radio-generic on the music side, i.e. they strike a really nice and delicate balance between two styles that often have divergent vibes. The combination is potent, and the riffs, of course, are furious and real. Check out the new music video for the album’s third track below.

The Burning Dawn releases October 25th via Season of Mist. Cloak will be on a North America tour later this month and into November with 1349 and Uada, dates below.

From the band:

“‘A Voice In The Night’ is a song about following the road of true freedom, which in turn is a road of constant strife. It’s about venturing into the darkest corners of this doomed world and carving your own path until the end. This song is dedicated to those who have heard this voice, and those especially who were brave enough to heed its call.
