Aoratos Speaks “Of Harvest, Scythe and Sickle Moon” Through Black Metal’s Darkness

gods without name

Black metal mastermind Naas Alcameth has been busy outside of Nightbringer and Akhlys — specifically, he’s been pouring mind and soul into the album debut for Aoratos, a four-piece outfit in which Alcameth handles vocals, guitars, and synths. The project’s first album is called Gods Without Name, standing alone as an incredibly deep and mysterious fever-dream about a descent into your own personal hell. From its densely layered tremolo riffing to Alcameth’s to-the-skies howls, Gods Without Name asks for significant mental digestion but in turn offers supreme rewards for listener patience. Check out an exclusive stream of the album’s thunderous third track “Of Harvest, Scythe and Sickle Moon” below.

“Of Harvest, Scythe and Sickle Moon” acts as a great microcosm for Gods Without Name: its mud-thick blasting, embedded synth work, and harrowing howling all vie for their own sonic bandwidth. That is to say that this track, and the album as a whole, is jam-packed with content, almost to the point of bursting under the tension created between all the interconnecting parts. This tension, indeed, even further adds value to Gods Without Name, creating not an “uncomfortable” listen but a “comfortably unsettling” one. This black metal album is for mental suffocation, not blossoming; this black metal album is about cacophony and disorder and dark atmospherics. Here, entropy reigns free.

Gods Without Name releases March 22nd via Debemur Morti Productions. Listen to the album’s other single below:
