Altars giveaway

Diabolical things are afoot down under. Cult death metallers Portal just got confirmed for next year’s Maryland Deathfest. Shackles put out a phenomenal album (reviewed here) earlier this year. Funeral doomsters Mournful Congregation and blackened thrashers Deströyer 666 recently released solid full-lengths (though the latter is now based all over the place). Asphyxiate Recordings remain a noteworthy label and distro. They are helping promote the final Australian show for Gospel of the Horns, who are hanging up their, well, horns.

To this list add Altars. Out of the hundreds of demos I’ve received, theirs is one of literally a handful I’ve kept. With Pro Tools and MySpace, demos are now a dime a dozen. But Altars have that old-school grit, complete with mysterious artwork. These Adelaideans cross Morbid Angel’s savage churnings with Gorguts’ wrenching dissonance. The result is, as they say, a corker. I’ve played this CD countless times, and I shan’t keep it a secret any longer. If you don’t want to mail order it from Australia, I’m giving away a copy. For a chance to win, email invisibleoranges at gmail dot com by midnight EST, Wednesday, July 22 with the subject header “Altars of Madness” and your full name and address. I will randomly choose a winner.
