There is a purity in the name Defeated Sanity that is admirable. Truth in advertising. The German death metal band lay all cards on the table in a gurgling technical death metal assault that could only point toward sheer stark-raving madness. It’s admirable.
Passages Into Deformity is the band’s latest escapee from the looney bin, out today via Willowtip Records. Order yours via the label and stream it in full below.

Solid album.
Huge step up from their last record, which was so scrambly and change-obsessed as to be unlistenable. ‘Serious’ brutal death metal fans will probably write this one off as dumbed down and overly accessible, but it registers as way more musical—and thus enjoyable—to these ears.
Fantastic shit. Hard to say if it tops Chapters of Repugnance for me, but it’s definitely a fine slab of brutality that should absolutely not be missed.
One of the things I love about us metal fans is that we will says shit like “Chapters of Repugnance” or “brutal death metal” or “Passages Into Deformity” without missing a beat, as if we were talking about the best way to remove a stain from a shirt. It is hilarious.
