Dang. _The Thousandfold Epicentre_ is my favorite of the recent spate of occult retro-rock LPs. Glad I got to see them last year.
never much cared for them on record, but i just saw them live in december and they were absolutely mind blowing. the recorded output always suffered from the monotone boring vocals (in my opinion) and live they did a lot of guitar noodling 15/20 minutes at a time and it was just really amazing. glad i got to see that show, one of the best last year for me. never much cared for the anti kosmick mumbo shmumbo.
I like them on record, but agree that their live show better conjured up the magic of their 70s influences. I saw them at the Decibel Tour in Chicago, where Watain’s cancellation allowed them to play a longer set. They went off, and it was more like seeing some modern psych band (a la Acid Mothers Temple or Bardo Pond) than a metal band. So much contemporary heavy music is tight and machine-like (Behemoth that same night being one example), and, while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s fun to see bands loosen it up a little.
Anyway, this band will be missed, by me at least.
I was at that Chicago show as well, fan-fucking-tastic performance. I was psyched that not only did I not have to see Watain bore the crowd to tears, but that the Devils Blood got an extended set.
I was at that show as well. I liked what I saw, but I was in the restroom taking care of a bloody nose I received from the elbow that belonged to the guy next to me for part of their set. Once I returned, Selim kicked my friend in the face, giving a bloody nose too. Overall it was a great show.
Good. One less band the world needs.
Well, that didn’t take long.
I never suspected I would be sold on this band – retro was never really my thing – but seeing them live did it for me. That “vessel of Satan” shtick was way cool. Also, they started their set by hitting me square in the face with a towel soaked in pig’s blood…
good. drummer can spend more time doing Urfaust stuff
Actually, VRDRBR only played on their first 7″.
Drummer is not actually of Urfaust.
Drummer of Urfaust was an early bass player of The Devil’s Blood
